K9cation – the ultimate vacation for your furbaby.

Our dog resort is located in a natural and organic ranch setting on 45 acres in Hudson, Colorado.  We are the  most affordable local for this level of luxury and training results and we offer your K9 the most fun.  We offer a variety of options to meet your training goals.  Nowhere else can you find an adventure of this magnitude. One paw into our doggie resort and  you’ll understand why so many dogs wag their tails, only choosing our K9cation as their vacation home away from home.

Health & Vaccines:

Dogs must be in good health and current on their vaccinations including canine influenza, bordatella, rabies, etc. Dogs must be free of diarrhea, cough, runny nose, vomiting for at least 72 hours prior to attending.  If you have a sick dog at home do not attend our facility.  Dogs must be free of worm, fleas, etc. to attend our facility.  We recommend the bordatella vaccine is administered every 6 months to your dog.

Aggressive/Dangerous Dogs:

We do accept some dogs with behavior issues.  Dogs with various behavior issues may not be allowed to participate in group play, pack runs or other activities at the discretion of K9cation staff to ensure the safety of your dog and all our guests and/or our family. Additional fees may apply at the discretion of K9cation.  You are responsible to keep your dog away from other dogs and people while attending our facility.

By Appointment Only:

We are available to provide you exceptional service by appointment only.

We schedule our time to be available to meet you and ask that you arrive on time and let us know if you'll be running late.

Waiver & Shot Records:

You must complete and adhere to our digital waivers and provide your vaccine records online.

Boarding Feeding:

Bring your dog's food in am/pm portioned zip-lock bags, $25 fee if you do not portion the food.

Bedding:

We no longer accept dog bedding or blankets.  Dogs in our care are provided Kurunda dog beds and bedding as appropriate for their care.

Refusal of Service:

We may refuse service to any client who is not a fit with our facility.   As much as you're interviewing us as your chosen facility of care, we are interviewing you and your pup to ensure you're a good fit for our programs.

 

Training:

Bring your dog hungry, do not feed them before class.  Bring whatever leash and collar you're currently using.  We will offer recommendations and offer products on site.  Bring high value treats.  Dress comfortably and in layers, prepare for outside elements as we may work inside an indoor arena with sand footing.

About the Canine Cough Virus:

The health of your pet is important to us and keeping your pet safe, healthy and happy while they are in our care is our number one priority.

To help ensure the well-being of your pet and guard against the spread of infectious diseases, such as canine cough (aka kennel cough), we have a vaccination policy requiring bordatella, current vaccines and rabies, and recommending canine influenza at least two weeks prior to visiting our facility. We adhere to a strict cleaning and disinfecting protocol. However, even with this strict policy and even though a dog has received the Bordetella vaccine, they may still contract canine cough.

 

We Need Your Help to be Effective:

• It goes without saying that sick pets should not be brought to a boarding or daycare facility.

• Keep in mind that the virus is spread by either airborne or direct contact situations; symptoms may not appear for a period of up to 10 days; and your dog may have been exposed prior to visiting our facility.

• Please consult your veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment options.

• If your dog is diagnosed with canine cough after a stay at our facility, please notify us. Providing this information can help us protect the health of other dogs staying at our facility.

Here are some of the frequently asked questions about canine cough:

 

WHAT IS CANINE COUGH?
Canine cough is a highly-contagious respiratory disease. The virus that causes the infection is part of a complex of viruses and bacteria associated with other canine respiratory pathogens (germs). Only your veterinarian can diagnose canine cough and provide treatment, if necessary.

 

HOW IS CANINE COUGH SPREAD?
As with other respiratory pathogens, canine cough is spread by direct dog-to-dog contact, respiratory secretions, aerosols generated by coughing and sneezing, and contact with contaminated environments. The virus can also contaminate kennel surfaces, food and water bowls, collars and leashes, and the hands and clothing of people who handle infected dogs. The risk of infection is highest when large numbers of dogs are housed together or in close confinement, such as dog parks, shelter facilities, boarding and daycare facilities, training groups, and dog shows, etc.

 

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF CANINE COUGH?
Most cases are mild consisting of a dry hacking cough, sneezing and nasal discharge, and last from one to two weeks. Some dogs may carry the virus and show no symptoms, yet they can shed the virus and infect other dogs. Symptoms may not appear during the incubation period for up to 10 days. If your dog has canine cough, you may notice one or more of the following symptoms:

• A strong cough, often with a “honking” sound

• Runny nose

• Sneezing

• Lethargy

• Loss of appetite

 

MY DOG IS VACCINATED, CAN THEY STILL GET IT?
Yes. It depends on several factors including the age of the dog, the state of the dog’s health and immune system, the specific strain of the virus, etc.

 

WHY REQUIRE A VACCINATION IF THE VACCINE IS NOT ALWAYS EFFECTIVE?
Although not 100% effective (like any vaccine), the vaccine does help prevent outbreaks of the disease and helps mitigate symptoms if the virus is contracted.

 

WHAT ACTION DOES K9CATION TAKE IF A DOG APPEARS TO HAVE CANINE COUGH?
Keep in mind that only a veterinarian can diagnose canine cough as the symptoms are similar to other viruses and diseases. However, if a dog in our care appears to have the symptoms of canine cough, we contact the owner to pick up their dog.  In the meantime, we keep the dog isolated from the other dogs and provide separate and individualized care.

 

DOES K9CATION PAY FOR TREATMENT OF CANINE COUGH?
No. Just as you would not expect your school to pay for your child contracting a cold, we do not pay for the treatment of canine cough. It is a risk when a large group of dogs congregate in one place—much like children or adults congregating together and contracting a cold or the flu.
